Freedom of Speech is becoming quite expensive…
I find it rather funny that we argue about what we are allowed to say, or not to say. I thought that the point of freedom of speech was that we get to say what we felt free to say! Ok sure, sometimes people take it WAY too far. But lately it seems that unless someone’s speech lines up with the “trending politically correct” rhetoric, it’s followed by a firestorm of hate! Why is this happening?
I like to write captions on my photos, typically they don’t make a ton of sense (outside of my head anyway) but from time to time I throw in something to “poke the bear” so to speak. This time I used the whole “Cecil the Lion” madness as my example, read it carefully!
Anyone run into this before? Popularity does not make something a fact! But as soon as some celebrity tweets that the sky is falling, a few million of the followers are jumping in, and magically have all become decorated experts! Here is the hilarious part. Anyone that opposes the OPINION of said celebrity is instantly shunned with “They are red-neck, uneducated, losers that believe anything!” uhhhh excuse me? What did you just learn about 10 minutes ago? And you are telling people that have studied this their whole lives they are the idiots? Something doesn’t add up.
We have to remember we don’t want to create just another argument. I am writing this to help encourage you to not resort to the same tactics that might have already been used against you! Just jumping to the name calling honestly does prove un-intelligence, so avoid that. Maybe your Facebook wall isn’t the place to say it, if it is, don’t demand no one respond if they disagree (that’s another topic), but be prepared to hear it all!
Finally don’t be one of the people that get swept into popular opinions just because they are popular! Search out the TRUTH, talk to people that KNOW about the topics at hand, that means someone smarter than yourself ;-P Talk to someone that isn’t going to be swayed by what’s hot or not, and THEN maybe you can start posting to your Facebook wall ;-D
