Strong leadership is CRITICAL to raising kids!
I suppose it’s time to talk once again about the 5 sons I am trying to raise. Recently someone asked me about my parenting style. Actually, they more or less were saying they didn’t like my parenting style. But as I explained what I was trying to achieve they realized that, while still not perfect, it is exactly how my children (or any kids) need to be raised. Leadership is everywhere, we cannot avoid it, however it is time we start to embrace leadership that actually LEADS people, not just moves with the hottest trends.Continue Reading
Raising 5 children, that are all male, and living to talk about it.
I have talked about this before to a certain degree, but with 5 kids you think I could squeeze at least five articles out of them… OK obviously I could squeeze a lot more out of them, but I don’t have enough Kleenex on hand to wipe up the snot… Boys are hilarious, they get dirty, they bleed a lot, they bruise a lot, they cry, hit, yell, break stuff, A LOT. If left unsupervised they would seriously take over this house and sell the copper wire from the walls for Slurpee money… So I don’t let them. Yes that’s right, I don’t let my kids do whatever they want, whenever they want to do it!!!Continue Reading
The feeding Program is always a highlight.
Imagine 100 screaming children, OK wait don’t imagine that, that’s horrible. Imagine 100 HAPPY screaming children! Why are they happy? Largely because a few people take a bit of time to spend with them each week. Pretty simple really. I was recently in Guatemala, read Part one, and Two of the trip. A great highlight last year for me, and again this year, was the feeding program that Fe Viva World Missions staff facilitate to local schools. Today find out what we did to add to the commotion and how you can still help the people of Guatemala!Continue Reading
How many times have we heard this: “MY KIDS WILL NOT LISTEN TO ME!!! WHY!?!?”
Well there could be a number of reasons that your kids will not listen to you. And it would be very easy to try and say “Oh they are just free-spirited” or some other excuse… The fact is that if your kids will not listen to you, does NOT begin with the child! It begins IN you.Continue Reading
Typically a fence means no freedom, or does it?
We all want our kids to have freedom right? Freedom to make great choices, and live a life better than our own. But what if I told you that giving your kids REAL freedom, meant you had to place boundaries around that very child? You might have heard about a study dealing with fences around a playground, and what children would do if the fences were removed. The question was raised after people feared that placing fences around schoolyard playgrounds, would limit the creative, exploring characters in developing children. “Hey if we get rid of this fence, then all these kids will have freedom! And explore what is OUTSIDE of the fenced area!”
True Sons and True Fathers – We need to be both.
I really feel that men in large, have let go of their true responsibility as fathers, and lovers, and it’s time we change that! We are meant to lead our families responsibly, we are meant to give ourselves up, and put the needs of the family above our own. We are meant to literally die for our wives if it comes to that, and yet in the same breath we are not meant to walk on eggshells, and give up our role as leaders in our households.
Jericho might not want to watch this…
Well the one of the 5 sons makes it to the internet, Jericho is now 6 years old, a very cute kid, the girls really like him, looks like he is going to have multiple wives… Anyway one Summer day, back when Jericho was still in diapers, he was minding his own business riding his shiny red tricycle…. Then My eldest son showed up…
