I mean if you don’t have Netflix yet….Well I’m not sure what to say, how are you going to have a Netflix Binge?…
The term “binge” has evolved slightly since Netflix has taken it over. That’s a good thing, kind of… Typically when you binge watch a show on the Netflix, it means that you don’t shower for 3ish days and you have quilted a blanket out of chocolate bar and chip bag wrappers… Kind of like an oily heat shield… I digress. Get ready for some shows to Netflix binge!
Now the FIRST thing you HAVE TO DO is unlock your Netflix. Depending on what country you are in will vary what you have available to watch. Fortunately for all of us people who are completely unsatisfied for what we already have, there is a way to see ALL of what Netflix. Head over to a site called Unblock Us. You get a 7 day trial for putting your email in, and they have step by step instructions to help you get it working, so I won’t explain that all here. When you decide to pay, and you will because you will get hooked on some show from Norway or something, it’s only $4.99 a month. Let me say it is SO worth it.
Another helpful tool is More Flicks. More Flicks tells you what Netflix has available on it, AND what country it is in. It also does the same for iTunes, and a number of other streaming services.
On with the list!
Peaky Blinders is a British historical crime drama television series starring Cillian Murphy as a gangster operating in Birmingham, England, during the aftermath of World War I.
I stumbled across this show, and I REALLY like it. There are 2 seasons of it on Netflix and a 3rd is in production. My advice is to give it some time to develop, as we are getting better story telling on UK and Netflix shows vs the ‘usual’ American drama where they need numbers, so they just do way too much in the first 3 episodes, then nothing really till the last 5 mins of each episode after. This show is not like that, they are going to take their time building the characters, and storylines!
Breaking Bad is an American crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The show originally aired on the AMC network for five seasons, from January 20, 2008, to September 29, 2013. It tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer, who, together with his former student Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), turns to a life of crime, producing and selling crystallized methamphetamine to secure his family’s financial future before he dies.
I consider this to be the best T.V show ever created! All seasons are on Netflix for your viewing convenience!
Parks and Recreation is an American television sitcom starring Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, a perky, mid-level bureaucrat in the parks department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana. It uses the same filming style used in The Office, with the same implication of a documentary crew filming everyone.
This show is brilliantly funny, for me it really hits it’s stride in season 2, and continues strong! It’s easy to Netflix Binge this one as each episode is approx 22 mins in length.
An Idiot Abroad is a British travel documentary television series broadcast on Sky1, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and starring Karl Pilkington. The ongoing theme of both the television series and the books is that Pilkington has no interest in global travel, so Merchant and Gervais make him travel while they stay in the United Kingdom and monitor his progress.
Ok I don’t know if I have laughed so hard in a T.V show before. This show is incredibly brilliant, and I can’t really explain much more, other than there are some situations that Karl gets into that are just incredibly awkward and utterly hilarious!
Lilyhammer is a Norwegian television series, starring Steven Van Zandt, about a fictional New York gangster, Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, trying to start a new life in isolated Lillehammer, Norway. Lilyhammer was promoted as “the first time Netflix offered exclusive content”.
This is the show that made Netflix say “hmmm” and started the ball rolling on their exclusive content! Lilyhammer is very witty, and throwing a mafia man into the Norway culture is so entertaining!
House of Cards is set in present-day Washington, D.C., House of Cards is the story of Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district and House Majority Whip who, after being passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, initiates an elaborate plan to get himself into a position of greater power, aided by his wife, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). The series deals primarily with themes of ruthless pragmatism, manipulation and power.
If you want shivers down your spine this is the show for you. It is incredible to see the sheer greed and backstabbing that the hunger for power can produce. This show is SO well done. There are 3 seasons of this Netflix exclusive show available currently!
So those should keep you busy! Next month I will release Jesse’s Netflix Binge List Volume 2!
