So I took a trip to Guatemala.
Why would I take a trip to Guatemala? There are scorpions, bats, bugs, and incredible heat. Well for the past 3 years I have been on a team to help others, first year was in Venezuela, but the last 2 have been in Guatemala. It is an incredibly beautiful place. You have not seen green until you have seen that land, even in the middle of a drought the lushness of this place is something to behold!
So on May 6th, 2015 myself and 11 others headed South for the trip to Guatemala 2015. Fortunately for us we were leaving in the middle of more falling snow… Canada, sigh. But in 12 short hours the hot damp blanket of humidity would be wrapped around our cold blooded Canadian selves.
We joined up with Fe Viva World Missions. An organisation devoted to helping the people of Guatemala. Fe Viva World Missions is an independent missions organization. They work with all sorts of people, and have a great vision to reach out to others less fortunate.
The team took part in numerous activities. They preformed dramas and played games with students at schools. They painted Casa Esperanza (A foster home on the Fe Viva base), they put on an appreciation day for all the Guatemalan staff that work at Fe Viva. The women of the team hosted a breakfast for women that are stuck in horrible situations in the sex trade. Training new instructors for the HEROES program (A character development course). Along with many other performances and work projects the 2 week trip was filled with serving the beautiful people, and nation of Guatemala!
What did I do? Well besides eating a lot of Imodium… It was my job to make sure we all kept giving our all. Everyone preformed so well on our trip to Guatemala, as we had such a wide range of talents and ages on this team, it was truly unique!
I will be filling you all in on more of the details over the next few weeks! Until then please visit the Fe Viva website and really consider supporting their vision of loving people!
